A good way to see if your insulation in your house is installed correctly is to look at your house first thing in the morning during the cold season. The frost is a good indicator of how well the insulation is working.

Continuous Frost (no dark patches) – Excellent

Mostly Frosty with rafters melting frost- OKAY

Large Areas with NO Frost- BAD

Again this is not to replace a formal energy assessment, however if your heating bills are higher than your neighbor’s then take a look at the rooflines first thing in the morning and you might be able to see why.
