Paint Contractor Fail – Paint Peeling on the House Exterior
Paint | Paint prep, Paint Problems, SawHorse
A new client asked for me to take a look at their house to help with some items on their improvement list. One of the items was a whole new paint job. When I saw the peeling paint I noticed that the previous painted caulked ALL of the joints.
This is a big mistake when it comes to lap siding. Only the sides or the buttress joints should be caulked. NOT the overlap. Moisture and water need a way to get out and if the lap is caulked, then the moisture pushes through the wood and forces the paint OFF the wood.
We recommend painting all 6 sides. OR using pre-primed wood and priming the cuts. If you can- use composite or no rot products.
