Why Radon control matter

Radon is the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer in the US, only to beat out by cigarette smoking. In some areas like Atlanta, where we are constructing the #1920sMakeoverATL project, Radon levels are really high. That is why we are partnering with Clean Vapor to install the vapor and Radon systems below the concrete. Their passive system is designed for maximum effectiveness and energy efficiency. Since it is based on physics, we probably will not need a Radon fan!

Issues with a 1920s House

Radon is more of a problem in a leaky house than you think. When warm air rises it created negative pressure in the crawlspace or basement. This is where all of the Radon is located so that Radon is sucked into the house.

The same “stack effect” can cause Radon to appear at the top level of a high rise as well. If there is not a vapor control layer designed to block Radon then the elevator shafts can become conduits for Radon.
